Windows 11 may soon natively run on Apple M1 and more thanks to this new project
If you wanted to run Windows 11 natively on Apple hardware, you had two options: use Parallels or use a Windows 10 hack approach. Please let us know if you know of any other options in the comments section. Last year, Microsoft stated that it was doubtful that Windows 11 would ever be supported on Mac or M1, thus enthusiasts are hoping for unofficial support.
As a result, according to developer Arminder Singh, who is working on a project to make this feasible, it may soon be possible to run Microsoft's Windows 11 natively on Apple M1 and other Apple Silicon gear. However, it is still early in the game.
For those unfamiliar with the Asahi Linux project, it is a similar effort aimed at running Linux on Apple silicon.
However, as previously said, Apple hardware brings unique issues. The biggest problem, according to Singh, is caused by Apple's own interrupt controller, dubbed Apple Interrupt Controller (AIC). The second issue is that M1's Input-Output Memory Management Unit (IOMMU) only supports 16K pages rather than 8K.
With so many impediments, Singh has stated that the project may not succeed, despite his efforts to overcome them. As a result, there is currently no ETA.
